Male Northern Flicker in its nesting cavity
19 minutes ago
In spite of an oddball start to her professional career (advanced ivy league degree in turfgrass science, biology teacher who used Arnold Schwarzenegger movies as teaching aids, and highly competitive lacrosse coach who often yelled “Jiminy Cricket!” during games), Penelope finally settled into an acceptable field. Romance. Now she reads it. Writes it. Reviews it.
Penny's favorite things include plants, weenie dogs, and beards (not necessarily in that order). She welcomes comments and suggestions, which should be addressed t0 penelope.romance@gmail.com.
Happy romance reading!

O this is lovely! I like it :)
Thanks, Juju! Me, too!
Oooh, yum! Very spring/summer-ish! Seems like a rebirth, huh?
Thanks, Julia. I am so jonesing for my garden right now, it's not funny. I think I'll work on my "indoor" garden project this week...putting together a terrarium collection. Gotta get the glass aquariums. I'll post photos when it's done!
Holly, nasturtiums and sassafras, maybe? Nice new logo, Penny!
Hi Nancy! There is a big passionflower at the top (passiflora), and yes...holly, nasturtium, ivy (hedera helix), sweet peas (I LOVE those!), and some kind of orchid? I have to ask Anne about those.
You're going to love my book, Diabolical. It's a historical romance and the hero and heroine are both botanists! Weeeeee! :^)
I've never had problems with SAD until this year in Maine but I think that part of that has to do with the tiny place that we are living in right now. Good luck with your own battle I should imagine that the flowers, a new logo, and a fresh return to writing should help!
Hi Lindsay! Today I decided the best way to get thru winter is to focus on 1 more month. If I can just get thru Feb, then spring will slowly start to trickle in during March. I can make it!
The only one I was able to guess was the holly. I was never really botanically inclined. Very nice though :)
With this huge winter storm coming my way, spring had better get here a little faster!
Hi DL! Good for you...Holly is a reference to my holiday series about the Klaus boys!
Oh God Lindsay, I am going to huddle under my blankets when this storm hits. I am so over winter!
Love the idea of botanical romance--I can't wait to read it :) That's a beautiful logo :) I like flowers but not gardening. I'm determined to like it at least well enough to keep up my landscaping this spring and summer. And sigh, how I long for spring.
Signed,
Hannah in MinneSNOWta
Thanks, Hannah! I've counting the days until spring, too. Screw the groundhog!
