It's The Elfin Apocalypse! The Klaus Brothers Series ON SALE FOR 99 CENTS!

The Christmas season is upon us! Time for a special holiday treat!

I recently got the rights back for The Klaus Brothers Series from my publisher, and so I re-released SWEET MAGIK (Book #2) with a brand-new cover.

I don't have any new holiday stories this year, so I thought it would be nice to offer the first two books on sale...

SWEET INSPIRATION (The Klaus Brothers Series #1)
and
SWEET MAGIK (The Klaus Brothers Series #2) are
 99 cents at these locations...

Sweet Inspiration (Book #1)... Read more about this book here!

Amazon -- 99 cents
Barnes and Noble -- 99 cents
Kobo -- 99 cents

Sweet Magik (Book #2)... Read more about this book here!

Amazon -- 99 cents
Barnes and Noble -- 99 cents
Kobo -- 99 cents

I've seen warnings on some erotica, so I thought I would add one here for my series. Ready?

THE KLAUS BROTHERS SERIES contains scenes with elves, x-treme Christmas spirit, Santa Claus, the North Pole, sex-in-a-sleigh, magic, old-fashioned romance, and very sweet scenarios. It requires a willing suspension of disbelief, a love of beards, and is enhanced by the addition of a gingerbread latte.

Good luck!

I've made up a couple of fun Etsy treasury collections to celebrate!

I decided the rest of the series will be novellas. Coming up next...Sweet Adventure (#3) is Sven's story. I added a new one just for Gregor and his true love called Sweet Cinderella (#4). And the final novella is Sweet Destiny (#5), which is Wolfgang's story.

I'm hoping to get SWEET ADVENTURE out for next xmas, 2014.

Please spread the word about this awesome sale. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Is It Christmas Yet?

Once upon a time, I thought I would be working on 3 different books over the course of 4 months.

Then it turned into 3 months.

Then 2 months.

And now, somehow, inexplicably, it is getting squeezed into a matter of weeks.

Photo of Penny with crazy eyes.

Well, LUMBERJACK IN LOVE is out. And something cool happened. Folks started reading it. And liking it. And then they wanted to read more of my books. And then they realized SWEET INSPIRATION was not available. And then they started bugging me. And then I figured...oh what the hell! I was going to wait until December, but I might as well re-issue it now.

So...it's off to JW Manus, Formatter Master O' Disaster. Got this banging new cover, compliments of Sharon Breitbart. It's GORGEOUS! And my eyes are only slightly crazy at this moment.

I will let everyone know when SI is out. And then it's back to the weenie dog book.

Hope you are all happy, healthy and your eyes are only mildly crazy,
Penelope

Coming Soon...LUCY THE WONDER WEENIE!

Drum roll please!

I have been working on a super-secret (not really), hilarious, fun, adorable, inspiring, and humbling project for the last six months. For some kooky reason I decided to write a children's book. I was lucky enough to find an incredibly talented artist--Sara Pulver--who was also interested and shares my same quirky sensibilities. Her paintings for this book have brought me to tears on more than one occasion. We will be self-pubbing the print book with Lulu, and I will let you all know when it's out. Definitely before Christmas, hopefully a lot sooner!

Speaking of Christmas, for some insane reason I have THREE books on the docket which I am attempting to publish before holiday time.

(Yep, I got those crazy eyes going right now).

Anyhoo, LUMBERJACK IN LOVE is Book #1 and it's already out and doing extremely well. (My new favorite quote from Goodreads is this..."a good book low on the angst, and high on the cute.") What a great description! That's just how I like my romance novels.

Book #2 is LUCY THE WONDER WEENIE, a wonderful children's book illustrated by Sara Pulver and written by my alter ego, Nina Clark. It's the story of Lucy, a black-and-tan miniature dachshund who eats some magic beans and turns into a superhero. (Modelled after my very own super heroic doxie Lucy!) Sara's artwork is nothing short of magnificent. (See cover above! SOOOO AWESOME!)

Book #3 is SWEET INSPIRATION, the first book in the Klaus Brothers Series. I have the rights back from Wild Rose, and will be self-pubbing it this holiday season.

All of this means I will be not be blogging as frequently. But I will be drinking frequent martinis.

Coming up next week....a big bloggy celebration for LUMBERJACK IN LOVE. We'll be discussing favorite beardy dudes and giving away fun lumberjack-inspired gifts.

See you soon!

Inspirational Announcement

SWEET INSPIRATION, Klaus Brothers Series #1, will no longer be available for purchase from The Wild Rose Press. As of this week, the rights have reverted back to moi.

It will be re-released this holiday season, with a new cover. Good-bye half-naked chef dude! Good-bye oven mitt! Good-bye castle in the mist! Good-bye cookies!

SWEET MAGIK (book #2 of the Klaus Brothers Series) is still available for purchase.

Thanks to some totally not-that-subtle nudging from Julia Rachel Barrett, I have decided to work on the rest of the series and get it ready for publication for Christmas 2013. I'm leaning towards 2 or 3 novellas....Sweet Adventure is already started. And Sweet Destiny will be the final installment. And maybe Gregor will get his own novella, too. Haven't decided that yet.

All will be available in print and ebook. And possibly packaged together as a holiday series.

So, it looks like I'm headed back to the North Pole. Again. I sort of missed those lunk-headed Klaus boys.

Thinking it's time to break out the gingerbread lattes,
Penelope

Random And Excellent

Scott Fiander has done it again! Made me laugh so hard my dog freaked out. He was inspired by several of my recent posts. The illustration above, titled "Penny In The ER" is a reference to my trip to the ER. The one below, "Christmas Spirit In A Candy Cane" was inspired by yesterday's post. How I love these! Merry Christmas to me. Thanks, Scott!

And in other excellent, random news, I made a Random Booklist for 2011....twice! Melissa, of Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf, listed Sweet Inspiration as Best Foodie Book and Most Embarrassing Book Cover....hee hee! Excellent! And totally random.

Also, Dead Trees and Silver Screens gave Sweet Magik an A+ review yesterday....She calls it "A perfect Christmas fantasy!" I am feeling tingly all over.

ETA: Another great 5-star review....from Got Erotic Romance..."Penny Watson has a charming style I just can't get enough of." Yippee-i-ay!

Last day of school, start of Christmas vacation, time to watch Santa Claus Is Coming To Town! Yee haw!

Happy, happy, random, excellent day!

Release Day Is Finally Here!

Hallelujah! Release day is here! On March 25, I got the most awesome email ever, from Donna Bas at The Wild Rose Press, telling me they were interested in publishing my first novel. I can't believe the day has finally arrived. Sweet Inspiration is now available for purchase! Yee haw!

Many, many thanks to all of my awesome friends, family, critique partners, fellow bloggers, neighbors, and even the little old lady who lives across the street! I feel the Christmas spirit in the air! :)

To celebrate release day, I'm giving away these cute snowmen ornaments from Crate and Barrel to one lucky commenter! (I absolutely love Christmas ornaments. I might have a wee little problem over-shopping for holiday decorations).

Here are some other fun spots to visit...
❅ Outlandish Dreaming:4 star review (this is a great romance review site!)
❅ The Quirky Ladies (my awesome critique group)

For those of you who have missed my shameless self-promotion over the last eight months, here's a blurb for the book....

☃☃☃☃☃

BOOK BLURB FOR SWEET INSPIRATION

What if the legend of Santa Claus is in fact, true?  What if Santa has five big strapping sons who help him run his empire?  Five single, sexy sons looking for romance...

Nicholas Klaus is a master pastry chef, a strict disciplinarian, and the eldest son of the legendary Santa Claus. One look at cafƩ owner Lucy Brewster sends him into an unexpected tailspin of lusty desires. When Lucy is injured, Nicholas makes a decision that catapults both of their lives into turmoil ....

Lucy Brewster, the free-spirited proprietor of Sweet Inspiration, has a flair for concocting sugary confections but no time for adventure.  She gets more than she bargained for when she awakens in the North Pole...rambunctious elves, a fitness-obsessed Santa, and the man of her dreams.  Does she have what it takes to become the next Mrs. Klaus?

☃☃☃☃☃

And, for your reading pleasure, here is an excerpt....Merry Christmas to all and to all, a Happy Release Day!

EXCERPT FROM SWEET INSPIRATION

Nicholas carefully folded his coat over the back of a cafĆ© chair and watched Lucy giggle with the children, as the puppy (lucky bastard) licked her face like an ice cream cone.  He could barely contain his irritation.

First of all, a dog had no place in a dining establishment. What the hell was the woman thinking?  Secondly, if a customer attempted a last-minute order change, Nicholas would firmly instruct him that all orders were final five days prior to the gathering.  How could one efficiently run a kitchen without rules?  Thirdly, and most importantly, Nicholas could smell gingerbread.  Cookies.  And they were burning.  Lucy was oblivious.  And her young assistant with the nose ring was leaning over the front counter watching the puppy, utterly clueless about the impending culinary disaster.

Nicholas tapped his foot impatiently, waiting for someone to remember the cookies.  He knew by the scent that the cookies were browning, probably a bit too dark around the edges. Still waiting.  Now the assistant was snuggling with the puppy, and an old man was regaling Lucy with some ridiculous story.  Oh, the hell with it.

Nicholas marched into the kitchen, which was surprisingly clean, found a pair of oven mitts shaped like Laurel and Hardy, and removed the cookies from the oven.  He found wire racks in a cupboard and lined them up on the counter.  Although the cookies were a tad dark, they were still salvageable.  Thanks to him.  Using a spatula, he carefully transferred each gingerbread man to cool on the racks.  He washed and dried his hands at the sink, and turned around to find Lucy and her nose-pierced assistant staring at him in disbelief.

Lucy stepped up to him, hands on her hips.  “Just what do you think you’re doing in my kitchen?  I don’t remember inviting you in here!” Lucy asked him incredulously.

“Yeah!” added the assistant.  Clearly not the brightest bulb on the planet.

“Since you and your assistant were too busy to tend to the kitchen, and an entire order of gingerbread was about to go up in smoke, I thought I would lend a helping hand.  No need to thank me.”  Nicholas smiled and raised his left eyebrow in a manner his brother Sven insisted was infuriating.

“Thank you?  Kandy and I are more than capable of looking after the kitchen.  We do not need your help, Mr....?”

“Klaus.  Nicholas Sebastian Klaus.  Is your assistant really named Candy?  How... charming.”

“It’s Kandy Kane, with a K, not a C.  I’m a performance artist.”  The young woman gave him a rather lukewarm smile.

“Fascinating.”  Nicholas turned to Lucy, who looked ready to murder him.  Good going, Nick, how are you supposed to seduce her now?

“I run my own kitchen up north.  I assumed you wouldn’t mind a little help, since you were...momentarily distracted.  Have I told you that your sugar cookies are divine?  They are, truly.  I was wondering if we could discuss the subtle flavor profile...”

Lucy crossed her arms, glaring at him.  “Mr. Klaus, while I appreciate your concern for my cookies, I can assure you I do not need any more help in my kitchen.  Why don’t you sit down with a cup of cocoa, and I’ll bring you some gingerbread cookies.  Nice and dark, just the way I like them.”  And then Miss Lucy Anne Brewster raised her right eyebrow in an utterly patronizing manner.  Nicholas simply could not help himself.  He raised his eyebrow right back.  Two can play at this game.

A young man rushed into the kitchen, grabbed the performance artist and began to thrust his oddly pierced tongue into her mouth.

“Oh Kandy, can you ever forgive me?  Let’s get married right now.  Vegas, baby, what do you say?  I want our bambino to have a daddy.”  Nicholas noted that in addition to his creatively pierced face, tongue-boy also sported a nice assortment of tattoos, all of candy. Peppermints, butterscotch balls, M-and-Ms, and of course, candy canes.

“Oh Ray, I missed you.”  Miss Kane began thrusting her tongue right back at him.

Nicholas turned to Lucy.  “Ray?  That’s not too original.”

Lucy shrugged.  “Ray, as in Ray-of-Sunshine.  They’re both performance artists.”  Then she turned to her assistant and tapped her on the shoulder.

“Kandy, you are forbidden to leave me right now.  It’s the middle of our busiest season, and I need you.  You and Ray can get married after the new year...”

“But I don’t want to wait, Miss Brewster.  I love him!”

Ray licked the side of his girlfriend’s face, and both Nicholas and Lucy shuddered.  “Yeah, and I got tickets for us to see Celine Dion, your favorite, honey.”

Lucy watched in disbelief as her assistant bundled up in a parka, plopped on a red Santa hat, and flew out the door with the gangly boy.  Nicholas bit his tongue to keep from laughing. Served the woman right for hiring such a flake in the first place.

Leaning down close to Lucy’s ear, he whispered, “Need a new assistant?  I just happen to know the perfect gentleman for the job.”

Klaus Brothers Invasion Final Day: Nicholas and Wolfgang!

Ten days until Sweet Inspiration is released! Woo hoo! I am totally stoked that my debut novel, a light paranormal Christmas romance featuring Santa and his five sexy sons (Nicholas, Sven, Wolfgang, Gregor and Oskar), will be available for purchase on 12-02-09. Look for it at The Wild Rose Press website. To help us celebrate, Wolfgang and Nicholas Klaus are visiting Penelope's today and giving away an Amazon gift card and a sweet holiday treat from Crate and Barrel to two lucky commenters. Don't forget to leave a message for Wolfgang, Director of Charitable Donations and general do-gooder, and Nicholas, master pastry chef, owner of Klaus Küche, and hero of Sweet Inspiration.

[Wolfgang, Nicholas and I are hanging out in my kitchen while I get a little cooking lesson...]
❅❅❅

Wolfgang: (whispering) Nick, do you have any idea why Penelope is staring at me?

Nicholas: (looks up from a bowl of gingerbread batter) Um, yes. She's staring at your beard.

Wolfie: That's weird. Now she's staring at your beard, and she has a sort of dreamy look in her eyes.

Nick: (chuckles) Yes, well, Penelope has a fondness for beards, shall we say. Uh, Penelope, would you like to help with the gingerbread batter?

Wolfie: Yo, Penelope!

Pen: (dazed) Huh? Oh yes, of course, what do you need?

Nick: Why don't you grab the molasses and cloves? I know your kids will be thrilled to have a fresh batch of gingerbread cookies when they get home from school.

Pen: Thanks, Nicholas. That is really sweet. (passes Nicholas bottle of hot sauce)

Nicholas: Penelope, you seem a bit distracted today. Is everything okay?

Pen: Um, yeah, of course. It's just not everyday that I have two hunky Klaus brothers in my kitchen, both sporting hot holly and ivy tats on their big, bulging biceps, and both with such delicious beards. It's a little unsettling. But, in a good way. A really, really good way.

Nicholas: Well, I think you should really pay attention to our cooking lesson. Your kids informed me earlier that you have a problem burning baked goods.

Pen: What!! Very rarely, every once in a while, once in a blue moon....I might burn a batch of cookies. Rarely.

Wolfie: (tosses Nick a bottle of molasses) Your kids told us you burn them every time.

Pen: That is a bald-faced lie! I personally like my cookies well-done. What a bunch of whiners!

Nicholas: (raises left eyebrow) Hmm. Well, why don't you pay attention and maybe we'll improve the odds of you making some edible cookies this Christmas, okay? First we pre-heat the oven to 350...

Pen: Pre-heating is so irritating! Who the heck wants to wait around for 30 minutes for the damned professional Viking oven to pre-heat? For the love of God, it takes forever. I really don't have the patience for that.

Wolfgang: (laughs)

Nicholas: I think I know why you're burning the cookies, Penelope....

Pen: Well, enough about me. Nicholas, how's the preparation for Christmas coming along? My readers might not know it, but you run a massive bakery in the North Pole. What's your specialty?

Nicholas: Thank you, Penelope. I am quite proud of Klaus Küche. It's a state-of-the-art kitchen with the latest appliances and gadgets, and the added benefit of elfin magic as well. Our specialty is Christmas cookies, of course. I have a large number of elves who help with cookie production. We also manufacture candies and other sweets for the holidays. I tend to be a bit particular about the cookies...for instance, I like my gingerbread cookies nice and thick and chewy, not too thin and crispy.

Pen: Ohh, me, too. You're lucky to have so many elves there to help out. What sort of magic do the elves use at Klaus Küche?

Nicholas: Well, the elves have put a new spin on the concept of a gingerbread house, and created a gingerbread city. It's called the Pfefferkuchen room, and well...it is really something special.

Wolfgang: First batch of cookies in the oven, Nick.

Pen: Yum, those smell delicious! Wolfie, do you use elfin magic for your job, too? It must be sort of tough being in charge of charitable donations. Klaus Enterprises seems to be involved in quite a few projects.

Wolfie: Actually, we wouldn't be able to accomplish so much if it weren't for the elves. I can be in the Philippines one morning, helping out with food donations at a Catholic orphanage, and then in Guatemala to oversee the new school we're building, and finish up the day in the pediatric wing of a children's hospital in New England. Using the magic sleighs to jet around is a huge bonus. All of my elf "employees" are super dedicated to their jobs, and to making sure a lot of underprivileged and special-needs kids get some extra attention for the holidays.

Pen: That is totally cool, Wolfie. You must be wiped out by the end of the year. Any fun plans for 2010?

Oskar: Oh yeah. Las Vegas, here we come! (high fives Wolf) Whad up, bro?

Sven: That smells good...gingerbread. Excellent.

Wolfie: I don't know about the Vegas trip, O. Last time I barely survived.

Gregor: Oskar promised to "tone it down" this year. (All the brothers howl with laughter)

Nicholas: I'll consider it. There's an excellent new restaurant in Vegas I'd like to check out. Penelope, have you been enjoying this season of Top Chef in Las Vegas?

Pen: Oh my God! Yes!!!! I'm on Team Kevin. You know, the guy with that rockin' beard....

Oskar: What a shocker. Penny's rooting for the guy with the beard....

Pen: Very funny, O. Kevin happens to be an incredible chef, too.

Gregor: (texting on his blackberry) Have you brewed any coffee to go with the cookies, Pen? How about those nice Tanzanian peaberry beans I got you?

Pen: No, Greg, I'm drinking a gingerbread latte. Sven, nice green and red tie-dye for the holidays. Very festive. Oskar, quit eating all of the batter. My daughter will challenge you to a celebrity death match for that. And you'll lose, believe me.

Nicholas: Since the elves are not here, I'm putting you guys to work. Sven and Wolfie, you're on frosting patrol. Oskar and Gregor, start decorating. Penelope...hmm....

Pen: I know! I'll eat the broken pieces.

Nicholas: Actually, I use the broken pieces to make gingerbread cookie crust for my pies. But that was a good try, seriously.

Pen: (Sigh) Okay, how about I read a romance novel while you guys work? And then I'll be Official Taste Tester of the Gingerbread.

Nicholas: (raises eyebrow) All right. Just stay out of trouble. How about we post our recipe for gingerbread men for your readers? They might like to try these at home.

Pen: Great idea, Nicholas. Okay, here's St. Nick's Gingerbread Men recipe...

2 and 1/3 c. flour
2 t. ground ginger
1 and 1/2 t ground cinnamon
1/2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. salt
3/4 c. (1 and 1/2 sticks) butter, room temp
1/2 c. packed dark brown sugar
1/2 c. light molasses
1 large egg

Sift first six ingredients together. Using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and molasses in a large bowl until fluffy, then beat in the egg. Add the dry ingredients, stir to combine. Gather the dough into a ball and divide into 3 pieces. Flatten each piece into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap and chill until firm, about one hour.

Preheat oven to 375°. Grease cookie sheets. Roll out disk of dough onto floured surface to 1/4" thick. Cut out gingerbread men with cookie cutters, and then place about 1" apart on the cookie sheet. Bake for approximately 10 minutes.

Hint from Penelope: When cookies have cooled, put out store bought containers of Betty Crocker icing, and bowls of candy for decorations. Then invite friends and family to decorate the gingerbread men. Good times! :)
❅❅❅

Pen: Thanks, Nicholas. And special thanks to all of the Klaus Brothers for stopping by. Please don't forget to leave a message to enter the contest today. Nicholas and Wolfie are giving away an Amazon gift card as well as some gingerbread cookies from Crate and Barrel. And a special huge-ass thanks to all of my friends and followers for their support over the last year. I can't believe that release day is almost here. Y'ins guys are the best!!! ☃☃☃☃☃
