Hi Julie! Sorry to hear you're not doing anything this year. You'll have to do fun stuff close to home....which I also love to do. This is our "20th Wedding Anniversary" celebration trip....was supposed to be to Wyoming, but it got delayed by my stupid heart attack. So, this should more than make up for that!

We got married on Kauai. It's like a tropical island wet dream. I highly recommend staying on the north shore. It's the wettest and most overgrown and beautiful part of the island. However, it's also very non-commercial - just one tiny town (Hanalei), one upscale resort (princeville) and a hole lot of quiet. If you prefer resorts, try Princeville, or the Hanalei Bay resort, but they are up on a cliff and you've got to walk down a bunch of stairs to ge to the beach. Instead, we rent a little house on the way to Tunnels Beach where the road ends and the NA Pali cliffs begin (we are DIYers when it comes to vacations and refer to rent a house or cOndo rather than going to a resort.

I highly recommend doing the first section of the NA Pali cliffs trail hike. It's about 4 miles round trip to Hanakapai Beach and back and can be muddy and slippery, but it's just extraordinary. I also highly recommend the boat sightseeing and snorkeling trips that run along the cliffs. There's so many other things to do, but the one thing to keep in mind is that Kauai is QUIET. There's not much shopping, night life, restaurants, etc. if you want that you need to go to Oahu, or Maui. If you want wind, sun, sand, water, stunningly beautiful and relatively unspoiled scenery along with utter relaxation and true "island time" then you'll love Kauai. Okay, I'll shut up now.

Love Hawaii but have only been to Oahu. Flying in I couldn't believe how clear the air was. My only suggestion is, it is a long flight from BOS and if I were with kids I would stop somewhere like SFO or SEA or LAX.
