...when your food choices include scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, tarantulas, starfish, silkworm larva, crickets and more fun stuff.
This is a photo my sister took of a novelty snack bar at the Dalian Beer Festival (in Dalian, China). She liked the cricket legs, but said the larva feels like you're biting into an eyeball.
*thunk*
How do you say "I'm a vegetarian" in Chinese? Just wondering.
Happy Weekend!

Eeek
I'm with you.
I've always said if I ever go somewhere like that - it's tofu only for me.
;)
Thanks for sharing this picture.
Yikes. I saw something similar once in Bangkok. There were lots of yummy looking food stalls and then, right in the middle of it all, a stall selling various kinds of bugs. That was pretty much the end of my appetite for awhile.
I can't believe your sister actually tried them! Talk about brave.
Hi Juju! I like tofu. That would work for me!
Jen....I would require COPIOUS amounts of alcoholic beverages before attempting that. Like...maybe 72 cocktails first.
This is why I refuse to go to China. My cousin - who has to travel there frequently for business - knows enough Mandarin to say - "I'm a vegetarian." That's it.
Hi Julia! Another good one to learn--"Do you have soy sauce for that tarantula head? Thank you so much."
Bwaaaaa-haaaaa!
Oh, yuck.
Julia...
;^)
Anny--I hear you!
I'd try the starfish, but the spiders? NO. I HAVE STANDARDS.
I also refuse to eat brain, monkey or otherwise. Thanks, Indiana Jones.
Tasha... that NO BRAIN rule would be bad if we all turn into zombies during the zombie apocalypse. You'll starve.
